Mabe pearls
A mabe pearl is defined as an assembled and a worked blister pearl that is attached to the shell. It is a hemispherical shaped pearl that is grown against the interior of the shell of the oyster instead of growing inside its tissue. These mabe pearls appear occasionally in nature.
The mabe pearls develop on the shell. There are cultured mabes which are grown intentionally by using a hemispheric nucleus instead of a राउंडer one. This is implanted against the shell of the oyster instead of within its tissue. Thus, the pearls that develops, is in a hemispheric form having a flat back. When the pearl is in the oyster, it is actually a blister pearl and not a mabe pearl.
Now let’s see the creation of the mabe pearls. Once the blister pearls are developed in the oyster, they are worked upon to make it a mabe pearl. In this process, the blister pearls are cut out of the shell with a circle bit drill. The nucleus from the pearl is taken off and it is replaced with a resin. The back of the pearl is coated with a small piece of mother of pearl to make the mabe pearl appear complete. The size of the mabe pearl depends to a great extent on the size of the nucleus that is attached at the interior of the mussel. They are on and average about 8m in size.
Mabe pearls are the perfect pearls to make any jewelry. The cultured mabe pearls are used for making jewelry like earrings and rings rather than stringing them on the necklaces. These pearls are the beautiful pearls having a very high luster. They are also much cheaper than the round pearls and hence are used extensively for making numerous jewelry designs.
