How to clean freshwater pearls
Pearls are elegant and beautiful. They are pursued by many women today. As you know, cultured freshwater pearls are precious jewels and should be treated carefully. Using the correct method to clean your pearl jewelry is very important if you want your pearls to stay in good shape.
There are many types of genuine freshwater pearls (round, button, drop, mabe, coin and ect) to make different pearl jewelry: pearl necklaces, pearl rings, pearl earrings, pearl pendants and so on. Please be aware that your pearls will be cleaner if you put them after you have applied your makeup or perfume.
It is good to wipe your pearls with a soft cloth after you take them off each time. You can dampen cloth with water but be sure to allow the pearls to air dry before putting them away.
Of course you might ask what if the pearls are very dirty. Please just clean them with a mild soap and be sure that do not clean the pearls with chemical solutions like detergents.
Another important tip is that never use abrasive cleaners or rub pearls with abrasive cloth. Both can wear away the nacre coating, leaving you with a plain looking bead.

If you clean crystal beads or southsea shell pearls which are machine made with crushed mother of pearls, they need only a wipe over with a soft cloth from time to time, to ensure that they are free from dust and exterior grime. Never immerse these beads in water, use only a damp cloth with a small amount of mild soap if desired.
By these hints, I believe you can keep your pearls looking nice for a long period of time before you have to seek the help of a professional pearl jeweler.
