Abalone Pearls
These pearls are obtained from single shelled mollusk. Abalone pearls are very rare as they require about 8 to 10 years. Abalone requires very specific conditions to form pearls like abalone has to eat throughout 10 years of pearl formation. Abalone pearls occurs in wide range of colors and shapes they may either solid hollow. They are available in different shapes like oval, flat, baroque or even unique horn like and different colors like royal blue to green. Even they have some amazing color combinations. Single abalone can produce many pearls with different colors and shapes. Abalone is only mollusk that can be used entirely other than its rare pearls; its shell can be used for inlay, button and carving, guts for fishing bait.
Melo Melo Pearls
Melo Melo pearls are harvested from Melo Melo marine snail instead of oyster or any other mollusk. Even these are not exactly pearls as it does not contain any nacre. Similar to Conch process it is created as response to entry of foreign particle which enters snail’s shell. Melo Melo pearls are usually very large and very round. Largest found pearl is of size of golf ball.
Melo Melo pearls has colors from tan to dark brown. Orange color is most desirable. Just like Conch pearls fades over time. Researchers have not yet succeeded to culture these pearls so all Melo pearls are natural.
Conch Pearls
Conch pearls does not contain any nacre, it is just a calcareous concentration. They are produced by Queen Conch oyster which is native of Caribbean Islands. They are usually small in size 3mm or sometimes less than that. It has wide colors like pink, yellow, white or golden. White and brown are very rare.
In addition with these amazing colors these pearls has unique structure “ Flame Structure” which is unique pattern in coloration.
