Black pearls

Many of us when we think about pearls; we relate it to white or cream colored pearls but now natural black colored pearls are very much popular and most sought after. These natural black pearls are very exotic and have very luxurious look. They are now most sought after since they are rarer than white or cream colored pearls.

Black pearls can be freshwater or from saltwater, they can be natural and also natural. These black pearls have different grading system than other pearls they are graded as A, B, C and D. D graded pearls are very expensive, rare and exquisite. These pearls are graded on the basis of size, stringing, luster, shape and sizes.

Black pearls have many different names like Tahitian pearls; black lipped pearls have variety color such as black, dark grey and dark green. Most common black pearls are Tahitian pearls; these pearls obtained from Tahitian Islands of French Polynesia. “Peacock green” are quite famous and expensive. There are even black dyed pearls; these pearls are synthetically colored. Usually this dyed color fades after some years.

Black pearls can be classified in two categories natural black pearls and cultured black pearls. Natural black pearls are very rare and are found only in one every ten thousand mollusk. Cultured black pearls are harvested after 18 to 24 months when Mother of pearls has produced necessary thickness so as to get high quality pearls.

Alluring and mysterious black color with high luster is most striking characteristic of these black pearls. The lustrous effect brought both reflection and refraction of light due to its mirror like brilliance.

Black pearls are rarely perfect round in shape. Almost round pearls are also most precious regarding shape. Drop and pearl pearls are also very expensive which can be transformed into necklace, earrings and pendants.
