Care your pearls

Pearl, being an organic substance needs a more care to look after it as compared to the other gemstones. If you invest a little more care for your pearls, they will pay you better in your long run.

The first rule to care for pearls signifies that “Last On, First Off”. Whenever, you getting ready for any function, party or ceremony, it is suggested to put on the pearl jewelry at the end of your make-up. See that the pearl jewelry do not come in contact with the perfumes, make-up or perspiration. All these can modify the color and the luster of the pearls.

Your pearls or the pearl jewelry should be the last thing to put on; whereas it should be the first thing that you should take off after coming back home. First remove all the pearl jewelries and then carry on your other activities. Clean the pearls softly with a damp cloth or a sponge before you put them back in their cases. This will remove the body oils present on it.

When you wear the pearls, allow them to breathe. Re-string them periodically; depending upon how frequently you use them. Avoid the contact of pearls with items like creams, perfumes, oils, hairspray, make-up, acids, chlorine, dust, grit and ultrasonic cleaners.

There are also some rules specified for storing your pearls. Always keep the pearls straight and protected in a soft cloth made of silk, velvet or satin. The pearls should not be allowed to rub against the hard objects like diamond jewelries or gold. Do not store them in extreme heat or dry conditions. It is recommended to keep the pearls in a slightly damp linen cloth if you are not going to wear it frequently. This helps to prevent them from drying out.
