Some things you should know about Jade!

Gentle, smooth and translucent Jade is alluring human mind from many centuries. Chinese word for Jade is “Yii” it means “One who rules”; for this reason Jade was only worn by Chinese emperor and their royal families. Even today Chinese culture; it is believed that Jade has some spiritual and magical powers.

You must have some knowledge about this magnificent gem before you actually buy it. The term Jade which actually derived from a Spanish word “piedra da ijada” is referred to two gemstones Jadeite and Nephrite. For many years these two stones were considered as one and the same but they are different, the main difference lies in their chemical composition. Nephrite is not so rare so it is less expensive that Jadeite. Jadeite is found in many different colors from dark green, yellow, white, pink and even red.

Like any other gemstones Jade also goes through long procedure which includes cutting and polishing; commonly jade is carved into slender and delicate designs. Even jade beads are also very popular; these are mainly used in necklace and bracelet.

Jade has a special grading system; with help this system gem is classified into three grades A, B and C. Jade of type A is untreated, natural stone; color of such stone is natural so they are called “True color”; this Jade is excellent quality gemstone which has not been treated in any way only preliminary processes like polishing and waxing is done. Jade of type B is treated with polymers to enhance color and transparency of stone. Jade which is artificially dyed is graded as C; this kind of jade is usually worthless. So always prefer Jade of type A.

While buying Jade make sure that coloration of jade is intense and uniform. Do not buy stones with cracks or blemishes. Avoid opaque jade, choose transparent or semi clear jade. And most important buy Jade from trusted dealer.
