How to Buy Pearls

Pearl jewelry is the most classic and elegant of all jewelry. It is suitable for any outfit, and meant for any occasion. Pearls are available in many different sizes, colors, quality, shapes, and luster. Here are some steps to help select your next pearl purchase:

1. Size:Pearl size depends upon the amount of time the pearl was in the shelll. Pearl size is measured by diameter in millimeters. As size increases, the price of the pearl increases.

2. Color: The natural color of pearls is usually white, cream or pink. Black pearls, with or without grey or blue overtones, are most expensive amongst all.

3. Luster: A good quality pearl should have a bright, even, and reflective surface. Pearls with transparent nacre have highest luster and reflection. High quality pearls will always have even reflection with radiance.

4. Surface texture: High quality pearls will always have a smooth surface, even coloration, and very little surface imperfections. Identify lower quality pearls by its surface, it may have wrinkles or pits.

5. Type: There are many types of pearls that are available like Akoya, black Tahitian, South Sea pearls, which are the main three pearl types.
